The Genesis Project is a second-hand clothes shop set up in a very disadvantaged area call.

The Manor in Sheffield to sell clothes cheaply to the poor.  Different people pledge to collect clothes for the shop for one month a year and Lyne Wives and Mother’s Union (LWMU) have done this in June for many years.  About 10 years ago LWMU thought it would be a good idea to send toys at Christmas to the Genesis Project so that families can buy new toys at greatly reduced prices to give to their children at Christmas.

One of our local parishioners made us a sleigh and each year on the first Sunday in December we have our wonderful Toy Service and the sleigh gets fuller every year, which makes it so worthwhile.

  • The lady who runs the shop, Joyce, tells us that everyone gets very excited when the van with our donated toys arrives each year and the shop is full to overflowing.
  • This acts as a poignant reminder to our congregation, young and old, of the true meaning of giving at Christmas.
  • In partnership with our Church of England school next door, we support Operation Christmas Child each each and fill empty shoeboxes with gifts suitable for a boy or girl caught in the midst of war, natural disaster or extreme poverty.  Between the Church and the School we usually collect over 100 boxes
